PostSubject: Windows to the Soul   Sun Mar 23, 2008 1:40 am

It is said that the eyes are our windows to the soul. Haha. Well, when it comes to make-up, I like to put more emphasis around my eyes. However, I'm not a huge make-up artist/fanatic so I'm always look for new and interesting ideas.

Currently, I'm keeping things simple with black eyeliner and some dark eye-shadow. But! I'd like to explore a bit more. So has anyone got some fabulous tips on either colour combos / applications / recommendations in general? I'd love to learn some more skills!

Just to add extra info, I'm an Asian so yeah... the sort-of pale complexion with auburn-brown eyes.

The smoky look looks great on my asian friends.

Apply a line of eyeliner then, using a sponge or tissue, smudge it; then, take a paint brush and dip it in a powder... use it to soften.

I play around with colored powders on my friends a lot.

I just use eyeliner.

Try smoky eyes with brown mixed with charcoal. I saw the how-to on Youtube, and it looked great on the lady who did it. :P Plus, it only took several minutes. Use mascara on the side of your eyes, not the whole eye (I think it looks very scary when you use it on all your eyelashes).

I see Asian girls with colourful eyeshadow and personally don't think it's very attractive...but it does look good on girls with lighter skin. :/ I guess it depends on your skin tone and outfit, too, but to play it safe, stick to boring (but sexy) black or some muted tones like grey or brown.

I like to put a little water on my eyeshadow brush, so that the eyeshadow does on a little thicker and darker, but in very controlled lines right around my eyes. Also, sometimes I'll put s little of the very same color eyeshadow under my eyes as on top of them, but just a very very little right in the lash line.

I'm lost in the makeup talk~ =D

My face looks best with minimal make up (not saying that i look just too fabulous naturally, but adding make up always makes me look weird). I also only use eyeliner. And I think liquid eyeliner is the best for control and also the application is nice and solid looking.

I love the liquid eyeliner from urban decay. Alot of their makeup is meant for that rock-glam look, but it looks great either way. I love their metallic colors for the eyeliner. I'm using a blue one "radium" and it's dark enough that it doesn't look too outrageous on me, but you can tell it's metallicy blue so it makes you feel a bit like you're gonna party!!

Urban Decay Liquid Eyeliner

There's the link, it's a bit pricey $18, but I loved it. Oh and it's a brush applicator, which I also liked.

personally i think for asians jus eyeliner n eyeshadow is all it takes. like coz most asians have smaller eyes n all so eyeshadow helps it look a bit more prominent n bigger, plus coz most asians (in this case im talking chinese asians) have more of a yellow-ish complexion so it better to jushave foundation n not to add too much blush coz if done badly can look absolutely garrish...not exaggerating here...honestly

Yes, it is a bit difficult for asians. I would try and do the smokey eye look because if you want something dramatic. With that, remember thick eyeliner and the key to everything is blend blend blend! Also, you need a bit of shimmer under your eyebrow to complement it.

If you don't want to be too dramatic, do eyeliner, than a base color on your lids first, and then using a darker color and just brush it half way and blend it in (that is, from right to left, just do it so it reaches half way of your eyes. This is a lighter efffect.

The key to everything is to make sure you do a good coat of mascara on your lashes. I recommend buying the good kind that you have to buy at a real make up counter because the forumla and brush is what helps you really get those nice looking lashes. The cheap kind as the drug store doesn't really come out as nice as you would want.

Also, the colors I came to realize showed up best with Asian eyes is actually a purple pallet.

Curling eyelashes and putting on mascara makes a huge difference, at least on my eyes (but I'm not Asian). And if you don't need to curl, just do the mascara. It's almost creepy what a big difference mascara makes.

Ooooh, I love her! Except that she really needs some lessons on how to put on mascara...

Anyway, one of my best friends is asian, and looks awesome with dark green and metallic shadows... once again, dark metallics. Light colours just don't look as good on her because they contrast too much. Then again, she's Korean and you may not be. But anyway, just a suggestion. And I second the mascara thing, it's amazing.

I'm Chinese and have single eyelids. I think it's better to stick to light/bright colors for day wear because wearing too much dark colors or putting on too much eyeliner can actually make your eyes looks smaller or tired.
